How to Choose Archive Shelving

Choosing archive shelving is important because you want archives to be both accessible and well-preserved. Shelving should be strong enough to hold heavy boxes and far enough off the ground to keep records safe from dirt and dampness.

Record Shelving

Design an Archive System

By developing an archive system, you ensure that active records remain easily accessible and allow inactive records to be stored until such time as their retention schedule runs out, thus saving valuable space in active file cabinets. By choosing the right archive shelving, you ensure that these inactive records remain easy accessible when needed.

It is important to choose shelving that is deep enough to hold archives boxes. Our 36" deep wire shelving units allow for archive boxes two deep on each shelf. Our 18" shelving will hold archive boxes 1 deep.

Weight capacity is especially important. Our wire shelving holds 800lbs while our rivet archive shelving holds heavier weights so that you can fit the archives you need to store.
