Light-Duty Boltless Shelving Add-On Units for Extending a Row

A light-duty add-on unit extends a row of single rivet shelving without the cost of another complete unit. Each add-on includes two posts instead of four, and it attaches to the end of an existing light-duty boltless shelving starter unit or another add-on to create the next bay.

These Lyon add-on units match the Lyon light-duty starter units: 14-gauge steel with a gray powder-coat finish, 84" tall with 5 or 6 shelf levels, in 12", 18", and 24" depths and 36" or 48" widths, with no decking or with 5/8" particle board decking.

Light-Duty Boltless Shelving Starter Units vs. Add-On Units

Starter and add-on units are built from the same components. The difference is the number of posts and whether the unit can stand by itself.

Choose a Starter Unit When:

  • You're setting up the first bay in a row
  • You need a single freestanding unit

Choose an Add-On Unit When:

  • You already have a light-duty starter unit in place
  • The new bay matches your unit's depth and height, in any width

Planning a Row of Light-Duty Boltless Shelving

Every row needs one starter unit. Each add-on after that adds one bay and two posts, so a longer row uses fewer posts than the same number of freestanding units.

To size a row, measure the full run of wall or floor space, then divide it into 36" or 48" bays. Bays in the same row don't have to be the same width, so you can combine sizes to fill an odd-length run. Each level on a 36" wide add-on holds up to 350 lbs, and each level on a 48" wide add-on holds up to 250 lbs, evenly distributed, at every depth.

Light-Duty Add-On Units Can't Stand on Their Own

With only two posts, an add-on unit must attach to an existing starter unit or add-on. Its depth and height must match the unit you're connecting it to. Width and shelf count don't need to match, so you can mix 36" and 48" bays and 5- or 6-shelf units in the same row.

How to Choose the Right Light-Duty Boltless Add-On Unit

Check these details against the unit you're extending before you add an add-on to your cart.

Check these before you order:

  • Depth: Match the depth of the unit you're attaching to: 12", 18", or 24".
  • Height: Every unit in this collection is 84" tall, matching the Lyon light-duty starter units.
  • Width and weight: Pick 36" wide for up to 350 lbs per level, or 48" wide for up to 250 lbs. It doesn't have to match your starter's width.
  • Shelf levels: Choose 6 levels for small, short items or 5 for taller items. It doesn't have to match your existing unit.
  • Decking: Order particle board decking or go without and supply your own boltless shelving decking.
  • Quantity: Count the bays you need beyond the starter. That number is how many add-ons to order.

What's included with a light-duty add-on unit?

Each add-on includes two 84" T-posts, double rivet beams for the top and bottom levels, single rivet beams for the levels in between, and particle board decks if you choose that option.

Will these add-ons work with boltless shelving from another brand?

These are Lyon add-on units, designed to attach to Lyon light-duty boltless shelving. They may not be compatible with other brands. If your existing shelving isn't Lyon, call 800-637-9508 before ordering.

Can I add more shelf levels to an add-on unit later?

Yes. Extra shelf levels, beams, and other components are sold separately in Lyon light-duty boltless shelving parts and shelf levels.

How quickly do light-duty add-on units ship?

These add-on units are stocked in our warehouse and ship the next business day. They are also available for free local pickup at our Madison Heights, MI warehouse.
