Community Involvement
Shelving.com is a proud supporter of the following community nonprofits and programs, who work diligently and selflessly to create better lives for those they serve. As a family-owned business that values uplifting community and giving back to others, we sincerely believe in paying it forward with our time, talents, and treasures.
Capuchin Soup Kitchen
The Capuchin Soup Kitchen works tirelessly to help improve the lives of those in need, using the Franciscan philosophy and tradition based on the idea that the Good News is available to all people, rich or poor, and that service to those in need is truly a service to a greater cause.
The Capuchin Mission
- Tend to people's basic needs, especially the need for food
- Strive to stimulate minds and nourish spirits
- Work to understand and address root causes of social injustice in our community.
- In all we do, we seek to build alliances with others who share a commitment to this vision.
The Capuchin Ministries support the people of Detroit in many different ways
- Serving full-course, nutritious meals at their meal program sites on Conner and Meldrum
- Provide Substance Abuse and Spiritual Care Programs, open to anyone
- Offer the Rosa Parks Children & Youth Program for children in need of help and support
- Establish and maintain Earthworks Urban Farm, an effort to restore balance to the environment and community, providing sustainable local agriculture
Our company has been involved with the organization for more than 40 years – and have hosted and/or sponsored the following annual fundraising events: Benefit on the Bay, Bocce with the Brothers, and A Gouda Evening. The admirable tenacity and devotion of the Capuchin Ministries inspires us in so many ways, which is why we donate at least 10% of our company profits annually to their cause.
If you would like to learn more about the Capuchins, make a financial or time donation, or otherwise get involved, we encourage you to be a part of a truly life changing experience - for you and for those you help.
Friends of Foster Care
A Michigan-based charity, the mission of Friends of Foster Care is to provide support to children in foster care from Macomb, Oakland, and Wayne counties. They provide immediate and essential needs to children from removed homes due to neglect and abuse, offer college, career, and independent services to those who have aged out of foster care but are still in need of assistance, and provide an annual “Christmas” for children who have been removed from their homes due to abuse and neglect. Since FOFK’s establishment, Shelving.com has transported, installed, and donated shelving for their Christmas project, and continues to provide products for their storage needs. We have happily participated in picking up a wishlist for a special foster kid and continue to support the work done by Friends of Foster Care.
Saint Louis Center
The St. Louis Center of Chelsea, Michigan was opened in 1960 by the Servants of Charity, a religious congregation of brothers and priests with the mission of caring for the poor, the abandoned, and people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Since then, the St. Louis Center has served individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities by providing innovative and comprehensive services that allow them to get the care and support they need while continuing to experience the fullness of life. The center provides unique programs for residents and those that attend day programs, including emotional and spiritual support, basic and preventive health care services, and extracurricular activities. Shelving.com has worked with the St. Louis Center for almost a decade now, providing chrome wire shelving for residents’ closets, pallet racks for kitchen and food storage, and more. We admire the care and services they provide to their residents and enjoy any chance we have to provide solutions to their storage needs.
Selah's Center of Hope
Selah's Center of Hope provides safe, compassionate, and Christ-centered housing for women with unexpected pregnancies. Selah’s offers a unique program that is tailored to the specific needs and goals of the women coming to Hope House, as many of them have been abused, trafficked, or stuck in poverty. They also assist women with their physical needs, educational guidance, job assistance, and childcare. Led by a team of experienced professionals, Selah’s Center of Hope connects women with mental health, shelter, and other pregnancy resources. Shelving.com is proud to have donated shelving to help store items for the mothers in need, and continue to support the mission of the organization by providing storage solutions they need.
Giveaways and Scholarships
Shelving.com is also involved in our community through the hosting of various contests. We have held giveaways for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, and partnered with local news outlets for our Veterans Day Giveaway, where we provide a selection of storage products to a deserving veteran. For the last nine years, we have also awarded the Shelving.com Business Scholarship to Michigan residents who are either currently attending an accredited college or university, or are high school seniors enrolled or planning to enroll in college or university. We understand the significance of preparing America’s youth for the future, and we recognize the importance of higher education in ensuring that our students receive the education and skills they deserve when entering the workforce.
