At Shelving.com, our pallet racking accessories are designed to improve the efficiency of your racking, enhance the safety when working with and around racking, and to overall optimize your space in the most practical and safe ways. Not only do pallet racking accessories help to make working with racking easier, they also help to increase the longevity and integrity of your racks for years to come.
Here, we breakdown our most popular pallet racking accessories and the benefits to having them in your space, on, and around your racking.
J-Bolt Drop Pins and Safety Clips
Inexperienced pallet jack drivers zooming around your warehouse space? Beginners have to start somewhere, but driving pallet jacks and fork trucks can be a challenge. For those inexperienced with the technicalities and logic that goes into lifting a pallet, the odds of picking up a pallet rack beam tend to be pretty high for new beginners. That's where safety clips come in. Safety clips securely lock pallet beams in place, so that they are not taken with the pallet when grabbing.
For second-hand or gently used pallet racking that may have lost safety clips in the process of assembly, j-bolt drop pins are ideal to use. They simply lock in the beam, preventing the high-low from lifting and going underneath it.

Steel Mesh Backing and Safety Straps
If your pallet racking is facing exposed aisleways or flooring, steel mesh backing is an absolute must. Covering the entire back of each tier of racking, steel mesh backing provides durable security, ensuring pallets and heavy-duty items of various sizes do not fall off the racking. It protects both products and personnel, and is essential to everyday operations (especially in areas where there is a high clearance of racking). Steel mesh backing is recessed about 3-6" behind the pallet racking, which still allows for you to place pallets that might hang off the racking a little, but still ensuring there is a safety backing to keep everything where it is supposed to be on the beams.

For lighter duty, but large items, pallet straps are ideal for keeping items in place on the racking. For especially large boxes, we recommend using a few safety straps per backing. These are better for securing solid, large pieces, but still come in handy in giving protection and peace of mind for the pallet and personnel.
Post and Column Protectors and End of Aisle Guard Rails
When working with Shelving.com on a pallet racking installation, quote, job, or more, we always, always recommend adding post, column, and end of aisle guard rails to be placed around and in front of pallet racking. Post and column protectors ensure no damage is done to pallet racking via fork trucks, pallet jacks, and other machinery or moving work near the racking.

When removing a pallet from racking, it is common for a worker to temporarily store the pallet against the racking, while they continue to grab more inventory. While it may seem like an innocent and quick thing to do, it is very easy to damage the racking by moving too fast or placing the pallet in an unsafe position for more than a few seconds. End of aisle guard rails protect from any pallets, fork trucks, and more from running into or damaging the rack, effectively saving you money from having to repair pallet racking, and increasing the longevity and usefulness of the racking without needing replacement.
Mirrors and Label & Aisle Kits
It would be an understatement to say a lot of things happen in warehouses on the day-to-day. That is why Shelving.com recommends end-of-aisle and convex mirrors to be placed throughout a warehouse, especially with blind spots and higher racking. Convex mirrors are just like the mirrors on a car: they help to guide you as you move through the warehouse, and are there to assist you in preventing and migrating any accidents or injuries that would otherwise occur if you were unable to see around corners and areas where you or a coworker is moving heavy equipment around.

For easier operations and efficiency in working, labels and aisle kits are a great go-to. They make it easier to locate specific storage areas and to identify what is within the aisle by letters or numbers. They are especially useful when racking is too high for you to hang signs on the ceiling, indicating what is down each aisle. Our labels and aisle kits allow you to add barcodes, numbers, and more — so if scanning for inventory and SKUs is the most efficient way for workers to find and efficiently organize items, the labels and aisle kits can work with you to make material finding a breeze.
