When a business is built on design, details matter— even in the warehouse. Impact Home Staging and Interior Design Experts, based in Troy, Michigan, is a nationally recognized firm with a full-service design team and one of the most respected staging divisions in the country. Their designers move furniture and accessories daily, pulling from a wide inventory to create spaces that sell homes quickly and beautifully. That constant activity demands an organized, safe, and efficient warehouse.
10 years ago, Impact partnered with Shelving Inc. to install boltless shelving with particle board decking. Those shelves served them well through countless reconfigurations and even a warehouse move. But after years of heavy-duty use, it was time to upgrade. As Alexa, a member of the Impact team, explained:
"One of the things that stood out to us about Shelving Inc. was their willingness to achieve our vision. They wanted to be sure that we had the best layout, the best shelving, and that's what you'll get if you work with Shelving Inc. If you want to elevate your shelving needs, work with them because they will rack your world."
From Particle Board to Black Melamine Decking
One of the biggest challenges in Impact's old setup was the particle board shelving surface. While it does well in a typical warehouse setting, it was no longer the material they had once needed for day-to-day operations. With heavy couches constantly being staged, wrapped, and moved, the boards would scratch and snag protective coverings. Over time, this cause damage to furniture and created unnecessary replacement costs.
Our sales team member, Wyatt, recommended replacing the particle board with black melamine decking. The melamine provided a smooth, sleek surface that resisted scratching and made cleaning easier —a must in a dusty warehouse filled with fabric, props, and furniture. The upgrade gave Impact a more professional, durable storage system that kept their inventory protected.
Optimized Layouts with Boltless Shelving
The project wasn't just about surfaces, it was about the entire warehouse flow. Our team here at Shelving Inc. designed a new layout with wider aisles and safer access to stored items. Existing shelving that was still in good condition was disassembled, moved, and reinstalled in the new warehouse to maximize investment.
Christy from the Impact team noted the difference immediately:
"Because of the lack of efficiency, storage, and safety in our previous warehouse configuration, we are so happy that Shelving Inc. came in to reconfigure the space. Now everything flows with the improved shelving. Our art was all over the place and getting damaged all the time. But once we had our new rivet shelving with wire decking, we were able to store our art properly so it would be easier for the stagers to work around and pick."
Safety, Longevity, and Trust in Shelving Inc.
As previously mentioned, this is not the first, but the third, time Impact has chosen Shelving Inc. to help them find solutions for their storage. Michael, the company owner, explained why they keep coming back:
"As we expanded the facilities, [Shelving Inc.] was a no-brainer. We called them because of their high professional service, and working with the team — especially Wyatt — was outstanding. The quality of the shelving has stood up for the full 21 years [since we have been working with them]. We actually repurposed a lot of our shelving by just adding shelves, which shows the quality of the materials involved."
Safety was also a key consideration. With bulky furniture stacked several levels high, the new rivet shelving provided peace of mind for both inventory and employees. As Michael stated:
"The rivet shelving does the number one thing for me: it makes the environment safer. I have a lot of furniture, and I need thing stored three or four levels high, and this setup allows us to do that , and safely do that."
Due to lack of space and poor quality shelving, Impact has to store furniture on their ends or backs, causing damage and premature wear. With the new boltless rivet shelving with black melamine decking, everything easily slides off the shelving when they want it to, keeping the condition of their items, the shelves, and the employees safe.
A Lasting Partnership
From smoother decking to smarter layouts, from protecting couches to preserving artwork, Shelving Inc.'s storage solutions helped Impact create a warehouse that supports their high-paced, design-driven work. The project highlights not only the importance of the right shelving but also the value of a long-term partnership.
At Shelving Inc., we're proud to have supported Impact's growth over more than two decades, and we're grateful they continue to trust us to deliver the storage solutions they need to succeed.
