Benefit on the Bay
Join us for the 33rd Anniversary Benefit on the Bay fundraiser, set for Friday, August 28th, 2026. Fully funded by Shelving.com, 100% of the proceeds benefit the Capuchin Soup Kitchen.
With doors opening at 5:30pm, the event will take place at MacRay Harbor on Lake St. Clair in Harrison Township. It will again be hosted by Jay Towers from Fox 2 Detroit.
Enjoy an evening of live entertainment from the lively Capuchin Soup Kitchen Choir. As in previous years, a silent and live auction will be featured with exciting prizes up for grabs. There will also be dancing, a cash raffle, a wine pull, and delicious desserts by On the Rise Bakery Café, one of the Capuchin Soup Kitchen's valuable programs.
Tickets are $95 and limited in availability. They must be purchased in advance. The price include appetizers, dinner, beer and wine, and complimentary valet.
100% of the event proceeds will support the valuable programs and services of the Capuchin Soup Kitchen, which traces its origins back to 1929. The Capuchin Soup Kitchen serves Metro Detroit by providing food, clothing, and human development programs to community members in need. Two meal sites prepare and serve up to 1,700 free meals a day. In addition, the Capuchin Soup Kitchen sponsors a shower program, social work assistance, and substance abuse counseling services.
History
Started by Shelving Inc. President Mike Schodowski, the first Benefit on the Bay event was held in 1993. Inviting family and friends to the Island Cove Marina, a modest crowd gathered to raise $1,400 in funds for the soup kitchen.
Continuing to grow, MacRay Harbor hosted its first Benefit on the Bay in 2003. Right before the event, much of Metro Detroit lost power due to a massive outage. Phone lines were down, and reaching friends and loved ones was nearly impossible. However, there was a beacon of light on the water that day as MacRays had a generator. The show must go on, and so it did! 400 guests attended that year, showing up on faith that the event's 10th anniversary would be a success—blackout or not.
Each year since has had a sellout attendance with crowds of over 400 enjoying the full evening of festivities now synonymous with Benefit on the Bay. No longer a beer and pizza party, the fundraising extravaganza spares no details - with a great meal, stellar entertainment, and fabulous atmosphere.
Shelving.com possesses a deep belief in the importance of a strong and connected community. We strive to give back to this nonprofit close to our heart—supporting a great cause while enjoying a summer evening on the water.
