Drills & Drivers

Collection: Drills & Drivers

Drills and drivers here are the specialist bodies rather than the general-purpose kind: tools shaped around a problem that a standard drill handles badly. Right-angle drills put the chuck at ninety degrees to the motor so holes can be bored between studs, inside joist bays and in the confined spaces where boring is most often needed; the larger hole-hawg style tools carry enough torque for self-feed and auger bits through framing, and a quick-change system that lets the bit come out without a chuck key. Magnetic drills clamp themselves to steel with an electromagnet and bore with an annular cutter, which is what makes accurate holes possible in structural section, plate and line hardware without moving the workpiece to a machine. Compact installation drill drivers with interchangeable heads — right angle, offset, straight — reach fasteners in cabinetry and equipment that nothing else will reach. Torque and reach matter more than speed in all of this, and a side handle is not optional on the larger tools: a bit that binds in framing will turn the tool rather than the hole.
