Powered pipe tools prepare pipe ends for joining, which is the slow part of any mechanical or fire protection install. Roll groovers form a groove around the pipe end for grooved couplings, working the material rather than cutting it away, so the wall is displaced rather than weakened; models cover the common Schedule 10 and Schedule 40 ranges in the sizes most often met, from 1-1/4" through 6". Doing that on battery power on the floor, rather than carrying pipe to a shop machine or hauling a powered roll groover and its stand to site, is most of the reason these tools exist. Pipe threaders cut standard tapered thread on site for threaded joints, with the torque and the support arrangement that stops the tool turning instead of the pipe. Both are tools where setup discipline matters more than speed: the pipe has to be square, supported and the right schedule for the die or roll set fitted, and a groove or thread cut wrong is a joint that fails under test rather than one that looks wrong. Check the size and schedule against the tool before starting.
