How Swing Door Enclosures Attach to Wire Shelving
Installation does not require tools or drilling. The side and back panels slide in behind the upper and lower shelf wires and are held in place with clear plastic clips spaced every 6 to 10 inches.
The front door hangs from rings that loop through grommets in the door and around the upper shelf wire, and it closes by seating its bottom edge behind the lower shelf wire. The door can be installed to swing up or swing down. A swing-up door uses the included elastic cord to stay open while you load or unload the shelf. Step-by-step instructions are in the wire shelving enclosure assembly guide.
Swing Door vs. Sliding Door Wire Shelving Enclosures
Both styles include a back panel, two side panels, and all hardware. The difference is the shelving size each one fits, how the door opens, and how much room you need in front of the unit.
Choose a Swing Door Enclosure When:
- Your shelving is 18" deep and 18" or 24" wide
- You want the full front of the section to open at once for larger items
- You have room in front of the unit for the door to swing up or down
Choose a Sliding Door Enclosure When:
- Your shelving is 14", 18", or 24" deep and 36" to 72" wide
- You need 13", 16", or 18" enclosure heights
- The unit is in a narrow aisle with no room for a door to swing
Shop sliding door enclosures or compare every style in wire shelving enclosures.
Swing Door Enclosures Are Cut to Order and Final Sale
Each swing door enclosure is cut to order, so it cannot be returned. Measure your shelving before ordering, including the depth, width, and space between the two shelves you plan to enclose.
Top and inside liners are sold separately. Shop wire shelf liners, including liners made for enclosures, to finish the interior.
How to Choose a Swing Door Wire Shelving Enclosure
Confirm these details before you order to make sure the enclosure fits the section you want to close off.
Check these before you order:
- Shelf size: Your unit must be 18" deep and 18" or 24" wide. See the Wire Shelving Size Guide.
- Shelf spacing: Set the two shelves you are enclosing so the 18" panels sit flush against the upper and lower shelf wires.
- Number of sections: Each kit encloses one section between two shelves. Order one enclosure for each section.
- Door clearance: Leave open space in front of the unit for the door to swing up or down.
- Color: Choose from 10 colors to match your space or color-code storage by user or department.
- Liners: Add top and inside liners, which are sold separately.
Swing Door Wire Shelving Enclosure FAQs
Answers to common questions about fitting, installing, and ordering swing door enclosures.
Will a swing door enclosure fit my existing wire shelving?
Swing door enclosures fit most wire shelving brands in matching sizes: 18"d x 18"w or 18"d x 24"w. The panels clip onto the shelf wires rather than the posts. If your unit has an unusual wire pattern, call 800-637-9508 before ordering, since enclosures are cut to order and final sale.
Do swing door wire shelving enclosures lock?
No. The door closes by resting behind the lower shelf wire and has no lock or latch. For storage that needs to be locked, see wire security cages and carts.
Can the door swing up instead of down?
Yes. The door can be installed to swing up or down. A swing-up door uses the included elastic cord to stay open, and a swing-down door does not need the cord.
Can I enclose more than one section of the same unit?
Yes. Each kit encloses one section between two shelves, so order one enclosure for each section you want to close off.
What if I need a size that isn't listed?
Swing door enclosures come in 18"w and 24"w. For 36" to 72" wide units, choose a sliding door enclosure. For other sizes, request a quote and our team will help you find an option.
