Chalk Lines

The fastest way to put a straight line on anything longer than a straightedge. A chalk reel snaps a line in one motion across a floor, a wall, a roof or a cable tray run, and over a hundred feet it is both quicker and truer than trying to strike a line by hand. What separates a good reel is the gearing and the case: a high-speed rewind saves real time when you are snapping repeatedly, and a sealed case keeps chalk off everything else in the bag. Bold line chalk lays down a wider, heavier mark that survives being walked on and stays readable on a dusty deck. Color is a working decision rather than a preference - blue is the standard temporary mark and brushes off most surfaces, red is near permanent and is the one to use when a line has to survive weather or traffic, so keep it off anything that will stay visible in the finished work. Refill before the line starts to skip rather than after.
