Collection: Pliers
Pliers grip, twist, cut and pull, and the pattern is chosen for the job rather than the other way round. Lineman's pliers are the electrician's and utility worker's default — square jaws for gripping and twisting conductor, a side cutter for the same wire, and on some patterns a crimping die or a thread-holding notch built into the nose so one tool covers what three otherwise would. Long nose and needle nose reach into panels and enclosures where fingers will not go, and the slimmer the nose the more delicate the work it suits. Diagonal cutting pliers exist only to cut, with the cutting edge on the nose so wire can be trimmed flush against a surface; angled heads get into the corners of a box. Tongue and groove and water pump pliers adjust across a wide jaw range for pipe, fittings and anything round, and a long handle turns modest hand pressure into real grip. Insulated patterns carry a tested dielectric coating for work where contact with an energized part is possible, and are not the same thing as a comfort grip. Handle length sets the leverage; jaw pattern sets what the tool can actually hold.
